I'm going to start a new thing. Basically, every so often, I'll tweet a summary* of an episode of Broken Silicon. * Stuff I find interesting They'll be kind of grouped, but that's not my focus. Brackets contain my own thoughts.
-
These'll be behind the latest Broken Silicon episode, as I don't listen to these episodes immediately. Expect them to be about 2 episodes behind. I do post these earlier in my Discord, but that's not important 😛. First up: Broken Silicon #110
-
Intel: Roadmaps - A lot of Intel's roadmaps have changed since Pat Gelsinger rejoined Intel. Alder Lake - 1-2C: 5.3 GHz - 8C: 5 GHz Lunar Lake - Most interested in Lunar Lake in long-term. (Big ambitions?)
-
Sapphire Rapids - Sapphire Rapids will be at most 56C. (Seems to have abandoned 72C possibility, though that was a given) - Thinks Sapphire Rapids-X will launch in end of 2023 (I expected Q4-22)
-
Ponte Vecchio Clarification - Ponte Vecchio has 1:1 FP32:FP64 when doing physical simulations. - Stated to be a fundamental architectural achievement. GlobalFoundries - Intel source said acquisition talks are highly likely to be going on
-
AMD: Codenames - AMD Codenames are far less consistent than Intel.
-
Vermeer-X - Confirms that AMD did not know if V-Cache could be manufactured before Zen 4. (I have been told that Warhol was in case it was not able to be manufactured.) - AMD might consider an architectural change or node shrink (Warhol-X?)
-
Raphael - Raphael is expected to beat Raptor Lake in 1T slightly. - Raphael is expected to beat Raptor Lake in MT performance slightly. - Raphael is only up to 16C. There might be a 24C model, but that has a different codename.
-
Zen 4 Threadripper Pro - Does not find it impossible for 96C to be limited to Zen 4 Threadripper Pro only. (This is what I believe will happen.) FSR - FSR "2.0" is coming out sooner than people think.
-
SteamDeck - SSD is not meant to be replaced. - Developers think SteamDeck might not do well in the long-term due to the low storage.
-
Server Products - Intel and AMD have more than 1 product lineup for server every year after 2023.(Sierra Forest and Successors for Intel and Bergamo and Successors for AMD(?)) - Dense Compute, Traditional Server, Embedded.
-
3D Packaging - Having full control of both architecture and fab is an asset with 3D-stacked products
