Intel Q2 Earnings Report + Conference Summary: 7(+1) Sections A lot of stuff is repeated news, but I included it anyway Stuff in brackets is my guesses/comments
-
General (1/2): PC TAM will continue to grow through 2022. Operating Expenditure increase by 10%. Intel Federal Contract using HPC GPUs and HPC-optimised Xeon crystallises in Q4 21. (Aurora late penalty/Price drop?)
-
General (2/2): O-RAN and vRAN growth for 5G deployments. Unification and alignment of software. Substrate supply in Q3 21 might be tight due to high demand in Q2.
-
Leadership/Organisation (1/2): Greg Lavender as new CTO. (Worked with Pat at VMWare as CTO) Data Platform Group Split into Data Center and AI Group with Sandra Rivera as GM and Network and Edge Group with Nick McKeown as GM
-
Leadership/Organisation (2/2): New Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics Group with Raja Koduri as GM
-
IFS (1/2): 100 Potential Customers 1 Major Cloud Provider using Intel Packaging. M&A is not essential, but not impossible. "Industry Consolidation is very likely" Lowering wafer costs as it wasn't a high priority previously. Currently significantly in excess of capacity.
-
IFS (2/2) Expecting some of the largest users of wafer capacity. (Nvidia? Qualcomm?) Collaborate with largest customers to customise chips for their needs. (Don't they already do custom SKUs? So even more custom?)
-
Process Technology: 7nm is progressing very well. 7nm startup ramp. (Risk production for PVC?) 10nm wafer starts more than 14nm wafer starts. (Q3 as I suspected) 10nm wafer cost is lower by 45% YoY. (Higher yields from 10nm+ -> 10SF?)
-
Client CPUs: 50M Tiger Lake CPUs shipped. (Around 10 months) Millions of Alder Lake CPUs to be shipped this year. (ADL-S + Some ADL-P to OEMs) Meteor Lake is on track for 2023.
-
Server CPUs: Sequential double-digit growth YoY in H2 21. Ice Lake-SP ramping to customers. ASP decline due to competition. More time for Sapphire Rapids validation.
-
Mobileye: Major win with Toyota. 10 design wins closed for 16 million total lifetime units. Begun AV testing in NYC. AV's coming to Paris soon. 1M vehicles for collecting data. Revenue up by 124% YoY.
